The Charlotte City Council has approved a contract of up to $30 million for planning, environmental and engineering services with Charlotte-based STV/Ralph Whitehead Associates (STV/RWA) to study the benefits and design an extension to its Lynx Blue Line.

Managed by the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS), the extension of the light rail transit line will run nearly 11 miles from Center City Charlotte, the region’s central business district. The extension will improve travel times in a congested corridor, while linking key employment, entertainment, cultural and retail areas of Charlotte.
STV/RWA was the project management support services consultant for the original construction of the Lynx Blue Line, the city’s first light rail line, which opened in late 2007.
