N.C. light rail generates $18.8M in tax revenue
The Charlotte Area Transit System has generated the revenue along the corridor since it was built five years ago. An expansion project is set to begin in 2014.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Carolyn Flowers, chief executive of the Charlotte Area Transit System, said the five-year-old light-rail line has led to $18.8 million in tax revenue along the corridor, reports the Charlotte Business Journal.
The 9.6-mile, $463 million Lynx line opened in November 2007. Construction on an expansion project, known as the Blue Line Extension, will begin in January 2014, using $580 million awarded by the federal government in October. To read the full story, click here.
