CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Post reported that the city’s highly criticized streetcar program has gained acceptance after adopting a new name and funding scheme. Previous streetcar proposals were shot down by the City Council because they would have been funded through property taxes.
Mayor Pro Tem Patrick Cannon voiced support for City Manager Ron Carlee’s plan for the $126 million CityLynx Gold Line extension. Carlee’s proposal includes $63 million in federal funds coupled with an equal amount of unspent funds from city coffers. For the full story, click here.
