WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — The Journal News reported that a new taxi service for disabled residents of Westchester County cost an unexpected $1.1 million. The high cost was due to a slow launch by county officials and an overestimate of how many riders would switch to cabs from the existing ParaTransit vans.
The pilot taxi service is part of an effort to improve service at a lower cost, one county executive told the paper. However, the taxi program in Yonkers never happened and the service in White Plains provided 2,985 rides, which is significantly fewer than anticipated. For the full story, click here.
