NEW YORK — Amtrak President Wick Moorman said during a New York State Assembly hearing that NJ Transit commuters could lose up to 25% of their rail service in and out of Penn Station during 44 days of summer track work by Amtrak, NJ Advance Media reports.

The number is the most detail that has been provided about promised service outages resulting from Amtrak's plan to rehabilitate tracks and switches in Penn Station. Up to five tracks could be closed and 25% percent of NJ Transit's 63 rush hour trains could be curtailed.

An Amtrak schedule obtained by NJ Advance Media warned that "significant service impacts" will require "service adjustments for NJ Transit" from July 7 to 25 and from August 4 to 28. That's when work is planned at a junction of track and switches where the Hudson River tunnel tracks branch out into the 21 tracks that serve station platforms. For the full story, click here.
