Ohio State U. copes with rising fuel prices

The University budgeted almost $772,000 in 2010 for fuel costs, but in 2011 that number jumped to almost $829,000. As part of their preparation, they partnered with the Central Ohio Transit Authority, which allows students to ride city buses by showing their BuckID at a cost to the student of $9 every quarter.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State Transportation and Parking Services, which fuels and operates Ohio State University’s Campus Area Bus Service, handicap-accessible vans, and all other university state vehicles, budgeted almost $772,000 in 2010 for fuel costs, but in 2011 that number jumped to almost $829,000, the lantern reported.

However, a campus official told the lantern that the department prepared for the fluctuating gas prices through planning and budgeting efforts to maintain the Campus Area Bus Service, and partnering with the Central Ohio Transit Authority, which allows students to ride city buses by showing their BuckID at a cost to the student of $9 every quarter.
