Parvus awarded contract from Metro-North Railroad
Worth nearly $729K, contract will replace obsolete radio equipment used by maintenance personnel.
The New York State Metropolitan Transportation Agency’s (MTA) Metro-North Railroad (MNR) has purchased 80 DuraMAR mobile access routers and 1XRTT cellular modem kits from Parvus Corp. for deployment on board its Budd M3A railcar fleet. Valued at $728,800, MNR’s purchase will be used to replace obsolete radio equipment used by maintenance personnel in conjunction with the train’s event recorder and diagnostics systems to monitor vehicle health data and maintain the fleet. “Working together with MNR and Cisco Systems, we solved an immediate problem of replacing an obsolete radio system, but at the same time, we also inserted a layer of networking technology which will support future applications for years to come," said Andrew Hunt, director of business development for Parvus. MNR is the second largest commuter railroad in the U.S., providing approximately 250,000 customer trips each weekday.
