NEW YORK — The New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority inspector general’s office found instances of bogus receipts for the MTA’s paratransit taxi reimbursement program that were filed and processed by the division in 2013, the Daily News reported.
The office also found cases of identity theft in which individuals took trips and received reimbursements using the names of others legitimately enrolled in the program.
The MTA agreed to implement stronger anti-fraud controls recommended by the inspector general’s office. The report doesn’t identify who carried out the fraud or quantify the cost to the MTA. For the full story, click here.
