LAS VEGAS — By year's end, surveillance cameras inside Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) buses will be able to stream live footage to law enforcement agencies during emergencies, reported the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The move was prompted by an incident on March 25 when a gunman barricaded himself inside an RTC bus and Metropolitan Police Department officers could not see inside the bus due to a vinyl advertisement that covered the windows, the report said.

The RTC and Metro police have spent several months testing the system, which will cost $225,000 to stream the live footage if the RTC can use existing equipment on the agency's 440 buses, but the cost could double if upgrades are needed, according to the Review-Journal.
