SAN FRANCISCO — Doniece Sandoval, a local tech entrepreneur, converted one of San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency’s (Muni) buses into showers for the homeless, sfist reported. The bus features two separate, private areas, each with a shower stall, sink, changing area, toilet and bench.
Sandoval’s outreach organization, LavaMae, announced last year it would take decommissioned buses and to turn them into fire-hydrant powered mobile showers for San Francisco's homeless population. The organization has since received four buses and established partnerships with businesses such as Kohler and Dr. Bronner’s and other organizations, including Project Homeless Connect.
LavaMae’s pilot program with the first bus will begin in May. Sandoval expects to put Lava Mae's other three buses in operation by this fall. For the full story, click here.
