South Korea's high-speed train service, which has succeeded in swaying people to abandon their customary forms of transportation, will reach its 100th day of operation Friday. According to the Korean National Railroad (KORAIL), of the average 40,000 people who rode the bullet trains each day, 31,600 had usually traveled by car and 7,400 by plane, reported the Asia Pulse. Since its launch in April, many people have chosen the Korean Train Express (KTX) over their previous forms of transportation because of its speedy service. The KTX runs the 280 miles between Seoul and Busan in 2 hours and 40 minutes, 90 minutes faster than the conventional Saemaul Express trains, which was previoulsy the speediest to serve the route, said KORAIL. South Korea's airlines and express bus operators have greatly cut back their services to provincial cities to avoid competition with the new rail service, said the Pulse.
