North County Transit District (NCTD) is installing Positive Train Control (PTC) systems on all COASTER trains, along the wayside, and in the control office.
Construction crews will install fiber optic cables and the related transmission equipment along and under the railroad tracks.
PTC was mandated by the Rail Safety Improvement Act of 2008. The act requires fully functional PTC systems to be in place on railroads, such as the COASTER, by December 31, 2015.
