The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) has taken a step toward putting 120 new railcars on regional rail tracks with the recent receipt of a “mock-up” of its new commuter railcar, the Silverliner V.
The mock-up was built to help engineers in the design and manufacturing process for the fleet of commuter railcars ordered by SEPTA from United Transit Systems, a consortium of Hyundai Rotem of South Korea and Sojitz Corp. of America.
Scheduled to begin delivery next year, the new railcars will help SEPTA provide an improved, more comfortable experience for riders by incorporating advanced elements into the design and adding much-needed capacity to accommodate SEPTA’s ever-growing ridership.
Although the mock-up itself will not carry passengers, it plays a critical role in development of the pilot car, a working railcar that will undergo extensive testing.
With more than 59,400,000 boardings since the service’s debut, the A Line’s utilization surpassed that of all other RTD rail services in 2025, the agency reported.
