Michael Baker International, a global engineering, planning and consulting services firm, announced that Bonnie D. Shepherd has joined the firm as Sr. VP, National Market Lead in the Railroad and Transit practice. In this role, Shepherd will be based in the firm’s Baltimore office and will direct all activities related to Michael Baker’s rail and transit national market to better serve the public and private demands of the industry and the firm’s growing client base.

Shepherd brings to Michael Baker almost 30 years of experience that includes work in the rail and transit industry with a focus on multi-modal transportation in architecture and engineering. Her expertise also includes strategic marketing and analytics of transportation systems, teaming partners and intelligence related to transit authorities and commissions for ports of America, the Department of Defense and municipal and Federal Governments.

Before joining Michael Baker, Shepherd was VP, Corporate Strategy at Systra USA, where she collaborated and developed strategies focused on track, infrastructure, electrical and systems for new work in the Northeast region of the U.S. as well as the broader North American market. Prior to her role at Systra, Shepherd served as VP, Marketing and Business Development at Hatch Mott McDonald where she specialized in multiple disciplines within the transportation industry.

Shepherd holds a BS degree in marketing and communications from Weston Business College.

Shepherd supports numerous transportation-related causes and others through active membership and volunteerism including: board member and past chair of the American Public Transportation Foundation; member of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA); coach for the APTA mentorship program, where she provides motivation for the next generation of transportation professionals; co-chair of the International Conference of WTS, D.C.,  Philadelphia and New York chapters, where she advocates for women in the transportation industry; executive volunteer for the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials;  member of the American Council of Engineering Companies; and as an advisory board member of the Association for the Recovery of Children.
