Sound Transit panel chooses RCI-Herzog for rail project
Competing contractor formally protests agency's choice.
Sound Transit's finance committee has chosen RCI-Herzog to build a 4.3-mile light rail project in Washington's Rainer Valley. The $128.3 million deal still needs to be approved by the agency's executive board, but already has sparked a protest by a competing firm, Rainier Valley Constructors. According to the Seattle Times, Rainer Valley Constructors — a joint venture by Frank Coluccio Construction and Gary Merlino Construction — will seek an injunction, claiming Sound Transit bungled the bid evaluation process. RCI-Herzog is a team made up of Herzog Contracting and Robison Construction Inc.
