South Florida ridership hits 15,000
Third highest in agency history.
The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) announced that 15,025 passengers rode Tri-Rail on Feb. 6.
This is the third-highest ridership count in the agency’s history. June 23, 2006, the day of the Miami Heat Victory Parade brought 18,613 passengers and a Valentine’s Day promotion on Feb. 15, 1995 resulted in 15,921 riders.
The SFRTA attributes recent ridership increases to the high price of gas, a growing awareness that taking public transportation is a significant way to help the environment and to a major regional marketing campaign that partners Tri-Rail with McDonalds.
The number of passengers has increased by more than 30 percent since the completion of the Double Track Corridor Improvement Program.
