State lawmakers urge Metro Transit to step up fare enforcement

MINNEAPOLIS — In the wake of the Metropolitan Council’s audit released last week that found light rail fare evaders could cost Metro Transit $1.5 million annually, state legislators are imploring the system to step up enforcement, and possibly, install turnstiles, CBS Minnesota reported.
While the report found that one of every 10 light rail passengers may not be paying fares, Metro Transit reports 94% compliance on its Green Line and 97% compliance on its Blue Line.
