Study: U.K. rail users find ticket machines confusing
Customer watchdog Passenger Focus’ results show that some travelers preferred to wait in line to speak to ticket office staff, despite ticket machines standing empty.
LONDON — Customer watchdog Passenger Focus released a study showing that ticket machines were daunting for passengers catching a train for the first time, or those buying a different type of ticket from what they usually purchase. A spokesman for the Association of Train Operating Companies responded that Passenger Focus's own figures showed last month that — from a survey of more than 30,000 rail users — seven out of 10 were satisfied with ticket-buying facilities at stations.
