Frank Montgomery, III, president of Capital Trailways, said his company’s purchase of a former quality competitor augments both his company service capabilities and the Trailways brand.

“We purchased a motorcoach company that has been serving central Alabama as a friendly Capital competitor for over two decades,” said Montgomery. “Southern has specialized for many years in high-end package tours for groups, and we are continuing to carry that tradition forward under the able management of Bill Tilton, former owner of the company he operated as Southern Transportation Leasing Inc.”

Montgomery said Capital Trailways has been a Team Trailways member since 1938, and was for many years a scheduled carrier. It is now also, primarily, a provider of charter coach services, though it does continue to offer some line haul carrier services. With merger of the two companies, Capital Trailways will open offices in Columbus, Ga., to better serve the west Georgia market.
