Trailways awards members at annual conference
Colonial Trailways (Mobile, Ala.), Thrasher Trailways (Birmingham, Ala.) and Flagship Trailways (Cranston, R.I.) were among the coach operations honored during the event.
At its 75th annual conference in Scottsdale, Ariz., the Trailways Transportation System (Trailways) awarded several individuals including its stockholder companies for their "leadership, valor and team spirit."
"Trailways still values, what some may call old-fashioned, certain qualities that have made us successful through nearly eight decades of customer service," said Trailways President/CEO Gale Ellsworth.
Charles Campbell of Colonial Trailways, based in Mobile, Ala. received a special award for going "Above and Beyond," as Trailways recognized his bravery and actions of valor during the 2010 Winter Olympics in Canada. Campbell commandeered a racing bus from a fallen driver and saved the lives of all onboard passengers and other highway travelers.
Bob Beard, a retired Trailways Driver, received a special award for his 50 Years of Dedicated Service, which included his tireless acts of team support and thousands of hours of volunteerism to Trailways.
Alan Thrasher of Thrasher Trailways received Trailways honors for his contributions to the overall Team, which included vision and fortitude.
Tom McCaughey of Flagship Trailways was named Trailways Outstanding Volunteer.
Additional honors went to three of Trailways' corporate recipients: Kobussen Trailways (Wis.), Burlington Trailways (Idaho), and First Priority Trailways (Md.).
Three stockholder companies also earned Trailways honors for their outstanding corporate marketing programs: Burlington Trailways, Fullington Trailways (Pa.) and Excursions Trailways (Ind. and Ohio)
