HAMILTON, Ontario — A travel training program to teach adults with intellectual disabilities to ride the city's transit system, Hamilton Street Railway (HSR), has diverted 151 people from the much more expensive paratransit service and saved an estimated $1,558 per participant per year in specialized transit costs, The Hamilton Spectator reported.

The two-year training program, which was funded by a $400,000 city grant, has ended, but supporters are urging the city to renew funding and make it a permanent fixture, according to the report.
