Trillium to build CNG station for GRTC Transit
The agency is replacing all of its bus fleet — 152 buses — from diesel to natural gas, and 78 paratransit vehicles from gasoline to natural gas as vehicles are retired from the fleet.
Trillium CNG will design, build and operate a high-volume, fast-fill compressed natural gas (CNG) station project for the Richmond, Va.-based GRTC Transit System. The agency is replacing all of its bus fleet — 152 buses — from diesel to natural gas, and 78 paratransit vehicles from gasoline to natural gas as vehicles are retired from the fleet.

The station design is focused on high-performance fueling and energy efficient operations and will feature Trillium's patented HY-C technology, which dispenses CNG at a rate similar to diesel using a hydraulic compressor. Trillium's smart control system will manage the CNG station to ensure optimal and efficient use of the compression equipment. The smart control system can result in savings up to 30% on power costs while maintaining fast fuel rates, according to the company.

Engineering and permitting for the station is under way. Construction is scheduled to begin in late September and be completed by early spring. The station will be constructed of American-made equipment in compliance with U.S. Department of Transportation's Buy America provisions.
