LINCOLN, Neb. — University of Nebraska-Lincoln Transportation Services has implemented a new policy prohibiting drivers from using electronic communication devices while driving university vehicles, The Daily Nebraskan.
Previously, the policy strongly discouraged the use of such devices while driving, but in an effort to increase both job and highway safety, the new distracted driving policy prohibits university-vehicle drivers from “creating, sending or reviewing text messages or email, accessing the Internet for any purpose, electronic gaming and reading any printed material on an electronic device or in paper form while operating a university motor vehicle,” the policy states, the report said.
According to the transportation services website, those who fail to comply with the policy will result in immediate removal of the driver’s authorization to drive a university vehicle for a minimum of 12 months and may receive other disciplinary action, up to termination of employment, according to The Daily Nebraskan.
