Inez Evans joined WSP Sr. VP, national bus practice, after a four-year term as president and CEO of Indianapolis Public Transportation Corp. (IndyGo).

“Inez is a recognized trailblazer in public transit,” said Jannet Walker-Ford, WSP Sr. VP/Transit and Rail national market leader. “Her decades of experience as a transit executive — and especially as the immediate past leader of IndyGo where she was instrumental in the delivery of leading-edge bus rapid transit (BRT) projects and an early adopter of zero emissions policies — contributes to her deep understanding of public transit goals, aspirations, and challenges that gives WSP the ability to offer added strategic and practical solutions to transit clients not found anywhere else.”

Evans’ WSP Responsibilities

Evans is responsible for leading the national bus practice for Transit and Rail and developing strategies associated with WSP’s thought leadership and emerging technologies, such as zero emissions, autonomous vehicles, and BRT trends.

She also manages national resources around innovative approaches for the design and delivery of projects for these technologies, as well as facilities and procurements, working with transit professionals who serve the firm’s transportation clients across the U.S.

Bringing Leadership to the Table

Most recently, Evans was the first black female president and CEO of IndyGo, the largest transit agency in Indiana, where she was a champion for BRT and zero-emission buses. There she ushered in IndyGo’s first all-electric bus line.

Prior to IndyGo, she held impactful positions with Valley Transportation Authority in Santa Clara, Calif.; Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority in Cincinnati; Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority; and Capital Metro Transportation Authority (CapMetro) in Austin, Texas.

Evans serves as an American Public Transit Foundation board member and on several American Public Transportation Association (APTA) committees, including Leadership APTA, a program that prepares transit professionals who aspire to achieve leadership roles in their organizations, and is a past APTA board member.

Evans, who serves on the WTS International Board of Directors, was also recognized in 2021 as the WTS Indianapolis Woman of the Year and in 2022 as the International Woman of the Year for her efforts as a champion of transportation equity. In 2023 the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials honored Evans with a Shirley DeLibero Women Who Moves the Nation Award.
