WSP USA has been selected to provide consulting services to Sound Transit for the I-405 bus rapid transit (BRT) project in the Seattle metropolitan area, which is Sound Transit’s first BRT project and a critical project that is part of ST3 for the Eastside communities.

The high-capacity I-405 BRT project is one of two planned BRT lines for the area. It will connect communities between Lynnwood and Burien with 11 stations along the I-405 corridor. The BRT system will make use of the I-405 Express Toll Lanes to provide improved travel times and will connect to Sound Transit’s light rail system at three locations: the Tukwila International Boulevard Station, the Downtown Bellevue Station and the Lynnwood Transit Center Station.

WSP’s services include planning, environmental and preliminary design for key project elements, including 11 stations and three park-and-rides. The WSP team is also developing the common elements for both Sound Transit’s I-405 and SR 522 BRT projects, which include station architecture, BRT system branding, vehicle selection and a new operations and maintenance base to accommodate both lines.
