The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) is making it easier for RIde Program and RIde Anywhere paratransit passengers to book and manage trips with the launch of the new RIPTA RIde-MTM Go app.

The free app provides paratransit riders with convenient access to trip information and booking features directly from their smartphones, according to RIPTA officials.

RIPTA’s New App

The app is available to eligible passengers with disabilities who are enrolled in RIPTA’s RIde ADA Paratransit program and RIde Anywhere premium program, offering a faster, more flexible alternative to calling RIde Customer Service.

With the new app, eligible riders can:

  • Request one-way or round-trip reservations up to 14 days in advance to locations they’ve previously visited.

  • Add a guest or personal care attendant to their trip.

  • Modify or cancel trips quickly and easily.

  • Track their trips in real time using GPS and view estimated arrival times.

“This new app gives our RIde customers more control over their schedules, reduces the need for phone calls, and offers real-time updates that make the travel experience smoother,” said RIPTA CEO Christopher Durand. “This is part of our ongoing commitment to implement new efficiencies, like technology, to improve accessibility and convenience for all of our riders.”

To help paratransit customers get started, RIPTA has created an instructional video that walks users through app registration, trip booking, and other key features. The video, How to Use the RIPTA Ride – MTM Go App, is available here. RIPTA.com/RIPTARIdeApp.

RIPTA’s RIde Paratransit Division

The RIde ADA Paratransit program provides service for people with disabilities who are traveling within three-quarters of a mile of a RIPTA fixed-bus route and cannot independently take the bus or travel to and from a bus stop.

The service area complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which requires that people with disabilities who cannot use regular fixed-route service have equal access to public transportation.

Ride customers with disabilities are also eligible for the premium Ride Anywhere Program, made permanent by the General Assembly, which allows them to request curb-to-curb trips to and from locations within Rhode Island beyond the 3/4-mile ADA service area. Participants must complete the standard Ride paratransit application and be approved to use the service. The RIde division must prioritize FTA-required ADA paratransit trips over premium trips.
