Efforts to raise money for the American Public Transportation Foundation (APTF), a division of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) dedicated to awarding transit scholarships, have been significant over the years, and the trend will only continue during September’s APTA EXPO in Dallas. GFI Genfare, manufacturer of bus fare collection equipment, will distribute colored wristbands at the trade show to anyone who donates $2. GFI will in turn match every donation with an additional $2. Wristbands will be available at the GFI exhibit, located at booth #4233. At the conclusion of the EXPO, GFI will remit all proceeds to the APTF during a presentation scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 28. “We thought this would be a fun, effective way to call attention to a great cause,” said John Andrews, GFI’s vice president of sales and an APTF board member. “Attracting top students into transit leadership positions is essential if our industry is to continue to thrive. Wristbands have been a hit with the public, particularly young people, and they’ll help us get the word out and create some excitement for this excellent program.” APTF has awarded more than 120 scholarships since 1988.
