AC Transit in Alameda-Contra Costa, Calif., selected the 72 San Pablo Rapid Bus Route as the first phase of its BRT project. Though not the most heavily traveled line, it has traffic signal interconnect technology in place. The 72 line will begin service in July 2003 and will have such features as limited stops, next bus arrival information, far side stops past intersections and traffic signal priority. The next proposed bus route, the 82 Telegraph/International/E. 14th Corridor, serves 40,000 riders daily and is expected to begin BRT service in 2004.
