Advocacy group pushes for rural bus subsidy
Transport Action Atlantic said that rural New Brunswick is at risk of being without any bus service if the provincial government does not subsidize it. Acadian Lines, which previously served the region, said it could not make a profit providing the service.
NEW BRUNSWICK, Canada — An advocacy group for intercity bus service, Transport Action Atlantic, is pushing for the provincial government to subsidize rural bus routes. Without the subsidies, rural communities are at risk of being without any service, reported CBC News.
The service was previously provided by Acadian Lines, which is folding its operations at the end of the month. The company said it lost millions of dollars providing service to rural areas and could not make a profit in the region. To read the full story, click here.
