Alstom has signed a contract worth around $220 million with Peruvian consortium, Graña y Montero Ferrovias to supply 120 Metropolis cars (20 trainsets) for the Lima Metro's Line 1 as well as 19 new cars to complete the existing trainsets¹ already in service on the same line. The delivery of the 139 Metropolis cars is scheduled to be completed by 2019.

The 21- mile-long metro line includes 26 stations and crosses the city from South ‘Villa El Salvador’ to North ‘San Juan de Lurigango.’ Ridership, which has been growing since the line opened in 2011, is estimated at 320,000 passengers per day.

With the 20 new Metropolis trainsets composed of six cars each as well as the 19 cars that will lengthen the trainsets from five cars to six, Graña y Montero Ferrovias will more than double the current transportation capacity, from 20,000 passengers per hour to 48,000.

The Metropolis trains will be manufactured at Alstom’s factory located in Santa Perpetua Barcelona (Spain) where the Metropolis trainsets already in service were produced.
