APTA, GIE Objectif strengthen partnership to promote sustainable mobility
The agreement is designed to encourage the sharing of beneficial experience and mobility practices, develop innovation, and facilitate transition from private vehicles to sustainable mobility, especially in major cities.
APTA (the American Public Transportation Association) and GIE Objectif transport public signed a new partnership agreement in Montreal on Monday, setting out how they will be sharing their joint vision for sustainable mobility at their exhibitions and conferences. At the same time, GIE Objectif transport public revealed the identity of its Guest of Honor at the next European Mobility Exhibition in Paris, in June 2018: LA Metro.
The partnership sealed between APTA and GIE Objectif transport public on the occasion of the UITP Global Public Transport Summit in Montreal aims to nurture closer ties between American, French, and other European stakeholders. The agreement is designed to encourage the sharing of beneficial experience and mobility practices, develop innovation, and facilitate transition from private vehicles to sustainable mobility, especially in major cities.

In addition to digital technology, electric and self-driving vehicles, and new forms of mobility, other key priorities for both structures include educating younger generations and encouraging people to adjust from travelling alone in their cars to using public transport and engaging in active mobility. These topics will all feature prominently at their forthcoming events: APTA Expo (October 9 to 11 in Atlanta) and Transports Publics, the European Mobility Exhibition (June 12 to 14, 2018 in Paris).
"We'll be spreading the word on these issues enthusiastically and effectively at our events, organizing discussions, talks, and visits to share examples of best practice. Public transport in France is mature and performs well; and while the USA is historically a car culture, pro-active policies are fuelling the rapid growth of public transportation there, too. Working more closely together will undoubtedly help us grow," said Jean-Luc Rigaut, Chairman of GIE Objectif transport public.
Chair of APTA Doran Barnes said: "France and the U.S. have many common challenges and opportunities for the development of our public transportation systems. The cooperation with GIE allows us to exchange best practices and innovative solutions and continue to learn from each other."
The expanded service builds on Pace’s growing On Demand network and is intended to improve access to destinations such as medical appointments, schools, shopping, employment centers and connections to the regional transit system.
An important part of the authority’s NextGen Bus Network, MARTA Reach will bring transit service directly to the rider’s location and offer a seamless link to the broader rail and bus system.
