Portland, Ore.-based TriMet is using $1.5 million of federal stimulus funds to construct a park and ride facility in Milwaukie, giving commuters in the SE McLoughlin Boulevard corridor convenient connections to transit.
The project, which will connect riders to four TriMet bus lines, broke ground this week at the intersection of SE Milport Road and Main Street near Highway 99E/SE McLoughlin Boulevard.
The work includes the construction of 329 parking spaces; the installation of curbs, retaining walls, sidewalks and driveways; pedestrian improvements; and paving and striping. Irrigation and stormwater treatment measures, lighting, landscaping and security cameras will also be installed. The park and ride will be complete by the end of November.
The contractor is Nutter Corp. of Vancouver, Wash. Subcontractors include HDJ Design Group, Sharp Associates, ADK Electric, Rain City Striping and Fox Erosion Control.
Federal stimulus funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) have allowed 11 new hires and prevented eight layoffs among the contractor and five subcontractors working on this project.
