Nova Bus announce a new order for two fully electric Nova Bus LFSe vehicles from the city of Brampton, Ontario. Nova Bus

As part of the Canadian Consortium for Urban Transportation Research and Innovation (CUTRIC) Canada-wide Interchangeability Project, Brampton Transit has jointly secured $11.15 million in federal funding to support the adoption of zero-emission transit buses. The funding supports the purchase of eight electric buses for Brampton – six of which are New Flyers Xcelsior model and two two fully electric Nova Bus LFSe vehicles.

The funding also supports the purchase of four high-powered, OppCharge-compliant overhead charging systems — three from ABB and one from Siemens.

The announcement completes the first phase of the plan to deploy electric buses in several Canadian cities, including Brampton, Vancouver, and York Region.

Nova Bus has been working with CUTRIC since 2016 on the Canada-wide project to integrate electric buses and the charging infrastructure of different manufacturers into public transit systems. The goal of the project is to help municipalities make the most of the major investments required for electric transit, including making electric buses and manufacturers’ charging stations compatible with each other. The standardization of infrastructure and equipment gives more flexibility to transport companies, according to Nova Bus.

Designed on the LFSe platform, the Nova Bus LFSe features a propulsion system that emits no GHG emissions and offers a better user experience through quieter and smoother driving, according to the company. Additionally, its fast and fully automatic recharging component of the batteries maintains a high level of efficiency.
