Calif. agency approves Espar diesel-fueled heaters

Air Resources Board says heaters meet idling emissions reduction requirements.

California’s Air Resources Board (ARB) has approved three diesel-fueled heaters manufactured and marketed by Espar.

The three models — Airtronic D2 (small bunk heater), Airtronic D4 (large bunk heater) and Hydronic D5 (engine preheater) — meet the idling emissions reduction requirements specified by the state and are permitted to be installed and operated on all heavy-duty diesel-fueled vehicles with a GVWR over 14,000 lbs., as well as all diesel-fueled commercial motor vehicles with a GVWR over 10,000 lbs.

As an aid for field identification and enforcement purposes, the ARB states that Espar may label the heaters as approved by the agency, which also specifies that no change can be made to the hardware or control calibrations of the heaters as described in Espar's application without specific approval.
