The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) transit police department arrested Raymond A. Gray Jr., on Tuesday, for making multiple bomb threats to the Metro system.
Gray was charged by a Federal grand jury with five counts of willfully making a threat/maliciously conveying false information using fire and explosives, and could receive up to 10 years in prison. The charges cover bomb threat calls from five stations in Washington, D.C., between January and July.
The Metro Transit Police Department's (MTPD) criminal investigation division is continuing to investigate Gray and believes that he has made multiple bomb threat calls from Metrorail stations in Washington, D.C., Prince George's County and Montgomery County, Md. Gray may face additional counts to the charges he currently faces.
MTPD detectives worked with the FBI Joint Terrorism Taskforce, Department of Homeland Security, United States Secret Service, Metropolitan Police Department Intelligence Operations Command Center/Fusion Center and the United States Attorney's Office.
"It was a tremendous effort on the part of several law enforcement agencies that resulted in these charges," said Michael A. Taborn, chief of the MTPD. "If someone makes threats of this nature, we take it seriously and track them down."
