D.C. Metro looking at Uber, Lyft to help improve paratransit options
The agency is looking into alternatives to MetroAccess because of the cost of the service and the fact that the number of people who need continues to grow.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Metro is giving Uber serious consideration as it explores more sustainable alternatives to its MetroAccess paratransit service and plans to invite the company, as well as other app-based ride companies to make proposals of what they have to offer, The Washington Post reports.
The agency is looking into alternatives to MetroAccess because of the cost of the service and the fact that the number of people who need continues to grow.
The idea has raised issues in the accessibility community, who are concerned that Uber or Lyft drivers have a lack of accessible vehicles and have no training to deal with passengers with special needs. For the full story, click here.
