Founded in 1994, Dean Trailways originated as an extension of the company’s long-standing Dean Transportation business in which it has operated over 1,500 school buses across the state of Michigan since the mid-1950’s. Dean Transportation’s focus is on transporting Michigan’s special needs students.
In the early-1990’s Dean began transporting students to the Michigan School for the Blind in Lansing and the Michigan School for the Deaf in Flint from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. As these students were required to travel long distances, there was a need for amenities including bathrooms to reduce travel time as well as other comfort and functional amenities. Dean Trailways was formed to fill these needs by offering coaches as part of its fleet lineup.
Since it began purchasing coaches in the early 1990s, the company has grown its fleet to 25 motorcoaches today.
Dean Trailways has worked with ABC Companies since the introduction of the Van Hool CX model in 2014. Today, the company operates eight CX45’s as well as one CX35 and adds Van Hools to its fleet as replacement coaches, maintaining its late model fleet.
