DENVER — The Regional Transportation District (RTD) is using about 40,000 concrete railroad ties and 200 ties made from recycled plastic on its $710 million West Corridor light rail line. These crosspieces on which steel track is fastened to make the rail right of way were historically made from wood treated to withstand weather deterioration, reported The Denver Post.
