Fare evasion losses doubled for B.C.’s TransLink
Coast Mountain Bus and TransLink bus drivers recorded unpaid fares 2.5 million times last year. The actual number is expected to be higher. A recent TransLink audit found fare evasion across the system rose 120% from an estimated $6.6 million in losses in 2001 to $14.5 million last year.
ALDERGROVE, B.C. — Aldergrovestar.com reported that Coast Mountain Bus and TransLink bus drivers recorded unpaid fares 2.5 million times last year. The actual number is expected to be higher, and the estimate of lost fares add up to at least $5 million a year from buses alone, a bus union representative told Aldergrovestar.com.
A recent audit of TransLink found fare evasion across the entire system rose 120% from an estimated $6.6 million in losses in 2001 to $14.5 million last year. For the full story, click here.
