U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation's (U.S. DOT) Build America Bureau has received 195 eligible applications requesting more than $7 billion dollars in Fostering Advancements in Shipping and Transportation for the Long-term Achievement of National Efficiencies (FASTLANE) grants. These applications collectively represent more than $24 billion in infrastructure needs across the country.

The FASTLANE program was established in the FAST Act to fund critical freight and highway projects across the country. The FAST Act authorized the program at $4.5 billion for fiscal years 2016 through 2020.

Last September, the U.S. DOT announced the selection of 18 projects to receive $759 million from the first round of FASTLANE grants, leveraging $3.6 billion in funding from other federal, state, local, and private sources. The U.S. DOT then released the current notice of funding opportunity last fall to invite interested parties to apply for a second round of FASTLANE grants.
