The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) awarded $2.4 million to replace the leaking 30-year-old roof of the People Mover bus maintenance facility in Anchorage, Alaska. The new roof will also improve the facility’s overall energy efficiency, saving money on heating fuel costs.
The 90,000-square-foot maintenance facility was built in the early 1980s using a design that was not appropriate for the Anchorage climate. The leaks in the flat-top roof have also caused severe damage to the walls.
The funds were awarded through the FTA’s Fiscal Year 2011 State of Good Repair Program. In just three years, the Obama Administration has set aside more than $2 billion in FTA discretionary funds to address the more than $80 billion state-of-good-repair backlog across the country.
