City leaders, transit officials and members of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization have chosen a route for Indianapolis' first ever mass transit system.
It hasn’t been decided whether the system will be an express bus system, light rail or an elevated train, but the route will run from the northeastern suburb of Fishers to downtown Indianapolis.
Construction is not set to begin for six years and no money has been set aside yet, but according to the Indianapolis Star, one city official said the decision is a major step towards making the project a reality.
The estimated cost for the transit system is $4 billion, which could be covered by federal grants.
