Georgia RTA receives $2.9 million for buses
The agency was awarded a grant for its Regional Express Bus System by the U.S. DOT.
The Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) received a $2.9 million grant for its Regional Express Bus System from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The grant, made from Fiscal Year 2001 Federal Transit Administration funds, will be used to purchase three 40-foot compressed natural gas buses and five intercity clean diesel expansion buses. Earmarked through the efforts of the Georgia Congressional Delegation, the funds were required to be obligated by the FTA before Sept. 30, 2003. The RTA's Regional Express Bus System will provide 26 routes in 11 metropolitan Atlanta counties during its first three years of operations and 37 routes by 2010. The federal government will provide 83% of the total capital costs for the system, which is currently estimated at $31.7 million.
