HMM expands Calgary light rail contract
The West LRT line will expand service to more than 80,000 residents in southwest Calgary and involves an approximately five-mile light rail extension of Calgary’s C-Train LRT System, as well as six stations and two park and ride lots.
The Calgary City Council approved Hatch Mott MacDonald’s (HMM) recommendation for a procurement alternative for the City of Calgary’s West Light Rail Transit (LRT) Project.
The recommended alternative will involve a comprehensive design-build contract including all major civil works, track work, stations, systems and signals, as well as an alternate alignment option that reduces the socio-economic impacts to the community.
HMM is responsible for project management of the multi-disciplinary team comprising its own specialist staff and other sub-consultants including Calgary-based architecture firm GEC and FOCUS Corp. In addition, HMM is revising the Calgary’s LRT Design Guideline Manual; developing a traction power modernization strategy; advancing the preliminary design; and developing the RFQ, RFP and design-build reference concept.
