Federal investigators said that the shoddy repair of the roof of a motorcoach contributed to the severity of the Oct. 9, 2004, crash along an Arkansas highway that left 15 passengers dead. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigators said the bus, operated by Chicago-based Walters Charter and Tours, had been damaged in a garage fire. Repair of the roof was performed inadequately, with several misaligned rivets, NTSB officials added. During the crash, which occurred as the coach was en route from Chicago to a Mississippi casino, the roof peeled away and all but one of the 30 passengers were ejected.
