MBTA opens CharlieCard store

Moving operations from the space-constrained Back Bay office to the new store allows the MBTA to efficiently serve reduced fare customers in a more comfortable atmosphere

Consolidating customer services in a convenient and centralized location, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) opened its new CharlieCard Store in downtown Boston. Adjacent to the Red and Orange Lines at Downtown Crossing Station, the CharlieCard Store is open Monday through Friday.

Customers seeking a Senior Pass, Transportation Access Pass (TAP) or Blind Access Pass can now obtain the required photo ID in an air-conditioned and fully accessible service center in the concourse of the subway station. Moving operations from the space-constrained Back Bay office to the new CharlieCard store allows the MBTA to efficiently serve reduced fare customers in a more comfortable atmosphere. Paratransit customers may also add credit to their RIDE accounts at the new store.

“The new Charlie Card store means there is no more separate but equal for our customers,” said MassDOT Secretary/CEO Richard A. Davey. “This facility offers all of our riders an opportunity to conduct their business in a welcoming, comfortable and accessible way. I am proud to offer this new feature for our MBTA users.”

Customers may also purchase MBTA passes, transfer value from paper CharlieTickets to plastic CharlieCards, and replace damaged CharlieTickets or CharlieCards at the new store.
