Pompano Beach, Fla.’s Broward County Transit (BCT) introduced one of five new MCI Commuter Coaches that will serve its express routes to Miami-Dade County starting this spring, with the agency ordering another nine coaches that are expected to go into service by this fall.

The new coaches feature comfortable high-back seats, LED reading lights, electrical outlets, Wi-Fi, pullout bike storage trays and wheelchair lifts. Designed for higher speeds, the Buy-America-compliant, Altoona-tested MCI Commuter Coach uses a high-floor design that raises passengers and the driver above traffic, along with a long-travel suspension for a smooth ride.

It also offers safety features including Electronic Stability Control, tire pressure monitoring and fire suppression, plus a clean-diesel engine for near-zero emissions.

MCI’s Commuter Coach has earned its leadership position in express transit service by offering low ownership cost; a lower per-seat cost with 42% more seating capacity than a typical 40-foot transit bus; and an excellent mean distance between failures, with the fewest failures per vehicle among all bus types.
