Motorcoach Industries (MCI) is consolidating coach production and engineering for its intercity coach models and investing $40 million in an expanded state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Winnipeg. The new and expanded facilities will allow MCI to finish completed coaches at its Winnipeg assembly plant for the first time in decades. The expansion allows MCI to manufacture its G coach model in Winnipeg as well as consolidate production for its E and J coach models. To enable the expansion and consolidation, the Providence of Manitoba has agreed to provide $2.8 million conditional grant for plant expansion and equipment and a $2.2 million grant for employee training. MCI currently employs 1,600 workers at its Winnipeg plants with an estimated additional 1,700 mobs indirect linked to MCI's Manitoba operations.
