Japan to operate world's first hybrid train

TOKYO — East Japan Railway Co. will start commercial operations on July 31 of a two-car diesel-electric hybrid train. The 49-mile Koumi Line linking Yamanashi and Nagano prefectures was chosen for the first commercial operations because of its natural features and appeal to tourists, according to officials.
