White House mulls Mineta replacement
WASHINGTON, D.C. — A short list of candidates is emerging to replace Norman Mineta; however, with a monthlong recess set to begin soon for Congress, it is unlikely that a new transportation secretary will be appointed before the fall. Sound Transit may run trains across floating bridge
SEATTLE — Sound Transit says that it has figured out a way to run trains across a floating bridge without being derailed by wind and waves. The design may require slower train speeds and the removal of concrete to reduce the weight of the bridge across Lake Washington. click here.
New York MTA will not raise fares this year
NEW YORK — A proposed New York State Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) rate hike set to take effect January 2007 has been postponed. According to MTA officials, the agency postponed the hike because it had generated far more revenue than expected. For the full story, click here.
